Painting is a very artistic process. It involves the use of any moist coloring medium which will be applied onto a surface, typically paper or a canvas. Painting can be used to express almost anything – the fantastical images in your mind, the scenery in your favorite tourist spot, the flowers in your garden, or the face of your loved one. There are so many things that you can do with a painting, and there’s no limit to what you can add to the image. You can create an alien of yourself, a metamorphic beetle, or a magical dog. There’s just no telling what subject or idea of a painting that you can work on.
For beginners, the simplest form of painting is done by using watercolors. Water painting is easy enough for beginners to focus on because this enhances their ability to create various mixes of colors and shades. By using watercolor for painting, a beginner will be better able to create particular shades and hues not through mixing but through adding more and more layers of watercolor on the painting itself. Watercolor is also easy to change because the colors are not as permanent and vivid as other mediums like acrylic and oil paints.
When using water painting for beginners, it’s a must to have the necessary materials which will be used to perform the painting process. First, you need a set of watercolor paints. You can use the block watercolors which are very common for kids and beginners alike. These come with a brush, but you may opt to buy a brush of your own if you want to. Any kind of paper will do, but white paper like bond or Oslo paper will do. You can also use a sketchpad of many leaves as your very own portfolio of watercolor paintings.
Before you begin, you must first have some inspiration. There should be a concrete idea in your head of a good subject to paint about. The simplest things are best done by beginners, since you don’t have to achieve a sophisticated output yet. You just need to be able to paint something that’s presentable enough to be admired by others. You can use a simple mountain scenery or a waterfalls as inspiration, or you can make a sea scenery with clouds and birds and the deep blue. There are so many simple and common images of natural scenes or even all-time favorite subjects that are really easy but educational when it comes to paintings. You can use flowers, trees, animals, and even portraits of people, whether real or imaginary. There are so many different subjects that you can work on as a beginner.
After having a fixed idea of a subject in your mind, you can now work on the actual painting. When you make a painting, you first need to make a draft. Using a hard lead drawing, create a light sketch of the image that you will paint. Once done, you can stand from a distance to check whether it’s of the right measurements or not. If you’re happy with the size, you can now start the painting.
The colors of the image should be well emphasized. Watercolor has limited colors but you can use these to make the shades of the image exact by applying several or few coats of the same color. You can use base colors first and apply shading and shadowing after the entire picture has been lightly colored with a single level of coating. After you have been able to establish the shading and shadowing of the picture, you can finish it with small details using a small brush.
